Ok well, first of all I don't think that smoking is considered cool. I actually think that now it is viewed more as socially unacceptable. Back in the day we did not understand the dangers of smoking but now that we do many people have quit. Quitting is hard but it absolutely can be done. I quit over two years ago and it was hard, but I really believe it depends on how much you want it. If you do not want to quit smoking and you are doing it for somebody else you are less likely to succeed. When I decided to quit I researched it alot and the interesting thing I found is that the actual nicotine withdrawal is only 72 hours. The rest is all mental or habit that is hard to quit. I think maybe the only people that might view smoking as cool could be teenagers, and they soon will realize how uncool it is when they develop a cough, have to pay for the rising price of cigarettes, and smell like an ashtray all the time. Since I quit smoking I have realized how bad smokers smell, it is really awful! I quit cold turkey but if you do need an aid to help there are programs out there to help with the costs of nicorette. Hope this helps!

Smoking initiates many processes in the body. As nicotine enters, the endorphin is released and you are actually becoming high. Yes these are sort of drugs which have obvious symptoms like becoming anxious, sweating and feeling of physical illness on removal. But you can easily give-up this habit. I found a good e-book on “Smoking Cessation”. Concerning cigarettes being cool, I don’t agree with you. What I feel is that some great personalities fall victim to this habit making it look cool which is surely a myth.

Yeah I agree, we see movie stars and rockstars smoking all the time. We also see cigarette ads that make smoking look as if it is something that should be desired. Unfortunately we see these people smoking and think well if they do it then it must be ok. I also remember when I was growing up thinking that if adults do it then it must be ok as well. The scary thing is what they do not show you. For instance, how bad lung cancer is. You very rarely hear of someone surviving lung cancer. My sister who is an oncology RN thinks that lung cancer is hands down one of the faster progressing cancers and a horrible way to die when you are gasping for air. I'm not trying to scare you just stating truth, we are here for support.
