Stage Two Diet
Duration 4 Weeks
Liquids and pureed solids
• This stage consists of blended or pureed solids, stage 1 or 2 baby foods and liquids.
• Continue to sip and eat slowly. It should take approximately 15 minutes to eat 1 ounce of food. (Most people feel full after 2 ounces of food.) It should take approximately 30 minutes to sip 6 ounces of liquid. Stop eating when you feel full.
• Be precise with measuring. The portions need to be limited to ½ cup to help prevent nausea, vomiting, or stretching of the stomach pouch. Use measuring spoons and cups. Use baby plates, bowls and utensils for small portions.
• Eat 6 times a day. This is necessary to better meet nutritional needs. Most people have pureed meals and liquid snacks. Wait 30 minutes after a meal before sipping liquids.
• Select a variety of foods, as tolerated. Consuming variety will ensure adequate and appropriate nutrient intake for energy and continued healing of your incisions.
• Blend all foods until smooth or baby food consistency. Tips on how to blend foods:
-Cut food into very small pieces
-Place food into blender or food process
-Add liquid such as broth, juice or milk
-Blend or puree until smooth-consistency; chunks should not be present
-Strain foods that do not blend completely
• Be aware of how pureed food feels in your mouth. In the future, this is how well you should always chew your food before swallowing.
• Continue to drink a minimum of 48 ounces of water everyday, to prevent dehydration.
• Continue to take your multivitamin with iron, B-complex, and calcium citrate
