Fish & Weight Loss

Postby marie » Mon Apr 26, 2010 2:04 am

Fish is a good low calorie, low-fat, high protein choice to assist you in a weight loss diet.

Fish is filled with vitamins like riboflavin (Vitamin B2), and Vitamin D.

Fish is also rich in calcium and phosphorus and a great source of minerals, such as iron, zinc, potassium, iodine, and magnesium.

When people substitute meat for fish, they decrease their intake of these essential vitamins, minerals, and Omega-3 fatty acids.

The best plan for achieving a healthy weight and maintaining it is to change your eating and exercise habits. Oily fish contain Omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat which can help to reduce total blood cholesterol. Fatty fish tend to have more omega-3s than leaner fish, but even "fatty" fish contain less fat than lean beef or chicken.
