Waist to Hip Ratio

Postby marie » Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:39 pm

Calculate your waist to hip ratio by dividing:

1. Your waist size at its smallest - measure the smallest part of your waist
2. By your hip size at its largest - measure the widest part of your hips

This will give you an idea of how much fat is stored in your abdomen. Fat stored in your abdomen raises your risk of heart disease.

Many experts agree that women with a ratio of 0.8 or lower are in good shape and men with a ratio of 1 or lower are in good shape.

Male
0.95 or below - Low Risk
0.95 to 1.0 - Medium Risk
Above 1.0 - High Risk

Female
.80 or below - Low Risk
.80 to .85 - Medium Risk
Above .85 - High Risk
